STARplex Crowned Club of the Year

13 August 2018

SwimmingSA is pleased to announce STARplex Swim Club as the Club of the Year for 2017/18.  This is the first time STARplex has won Club of the Year.

STARplex Swim Club is committed to the ongoing aim of taking swimmers to the highest level, as well as providing an environment which encourages swimmers of all levels to continue their participation in the sport.

During the 2017/18 season the STARplex Swim Club undertook numerous initiatives and activities to ensure that swimming is a sport enjoyed by a broad spectrum of the community.  This included building a stronger rapport and partnership with the swim school to promote the sport.  The club also collaborated with a number of fellow clubs in the spirit of competition, participation and athlete development.

The club also supports members to become registered Technical Officials by providing mentoring through the officiating pathway.

"I am proud of all the hard work, dedication and achievements of all our swimmers, coaches, committee and parents, I am also very proud of our co-operation with other clubs and look forward too many more shared ventures in the future."

Nicki Ryan, incoming Club President

Awarded annually the Club of the Year Award is judged by the Chairman of the SwimmingSA and recognises the most successful club in the areas of membership, corporate governance, officiating, athletic performance, coaching and community.

STARplex Swim Club is building a tradition of achievement to see all members continue and thrive.  Their aim is to encourage athletes to achieve their goals in their chosen sport, and to provide a safe and supportive environment for them to develop their swimming skills and important life skills such as discipline, commitment and sound work ethic.  The Club seeks to develop a strong and vibrant spirit in training, at meets and in the Club’s administration.

Club Captain Jesse Stone said "it is great to see that the athletes understanding of hard work and excellence has been identified by SwimmingSA.  “It is unbelievable and will inspire club athletes to continue working to improve further, as well as increasing club morale".

STARplex also celebrated a first for the club with one of their athletes selected to the Australian Dolphins Swim Team.  James McKechnie was selected for the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games making the final of the 50 m Breaststroke and placing 5th in the Commonwealth.  The club was behind him all the way, holding a breakfast celebration for him when he returned from the National Trials, as well a gathering on the night of his final with local media in attendance.

“Winning the Club of the Year Award is a great honour for our club and all of our members, coaching staff, swimmers and parents for all their hard work and dedication"

Coen Mobbs, Male Club Captain.

"This is absolutely fantastic” said Female Club Captain Jade Hancock.  “It is recognition for showing how hard our club has been working over this last season and this is the ultimate icing on the cake and will be motivation for both younger and older swimmers”.

SwimmingSA congratulates STARplex Swim Club on a successful year and wish all our clubs a successful 2018/19 season.

Each year all SwimmingSA affiliated member clubs are eligible for the Club of the Year Award and each club is encouraged to submit a nomination to capture the successes and initiatives of the club during each season.

The recipient of the Club of the Year Award is presented with the Perpetual Trophy, Pennant and E-Logo.
