South Australian Competition Strucutre

SwimmingSA and the Competitions Committee introduced changes to the eligibility criteria for the following events commencing from the summer 2017-18 season:

The minimum age for all Division 1 and Division 2 meets is now 12yrs.

The minimum age for all State and Country Championships is now 10yrs.

All swimmers aged 11&U can compete at Junior League, Development Meets and ‘All-In’ Meets under the development strand of the competition structure. Swimmers can also compete at any competition that falls under the participation strand.

Swimmers aged 10yrs and 11yrs can compete at State and Country Championships should they qualify.

In addition to these changes, SwimmingSA has introduced new participation events which will be held in conjunction with our State and Country Championships

Optus Junior Dolphins and Superfish Carnival – Friday 5 January 2018 (night 1 of the 2018 South Australian Country Championships)

Optus Junior Dolphins and Junior Participation Event – Sunday 21 January 2018 (day 6 of the 2018 South Australian Swimming Championships)

The SwimmingSA Event By-Laws have been under review by the Technical Committee and are now available on the website: click here

The rationale behind the move to minimum ages for Division 1 and Division 2 is to expose swimmers to the most appropriate level of competition for their age. This also creates a greater ‘progression’ within our competition structure.

SwimmingSA is taking Swimming Australia’s lead in this area following the change of minimum age for Australian Age and Open Championships.

Following the recently announced Australian Open Water Championships changes the SwimmingSA By-Laws for Open Water are currently under review and will be available shortly.
