Volunteer with us

Be part of the energy behind every swim.

Wave Makers is SwimmingSA’s year-round event volunteer team, helping deliver swimming competitions for members across South Australia.

They’re the calm hands, friendly faces, and team players behind the scenes, welcoming spectators, supporting athletes, and keeping the action flowing.

You don’t need to know every rule. You don’t need technical training. You don’t need to be a swimmer.

You just need to bring your energy, your care, and your willingness to be part of something bigger.

Why join?

If you’re studying sport management, teaching, marketing or communications, or just love sport, Wave Makers gives you real-world event and sport experience you can add to your resume.

You’ll gain skills, build networks, and show future employers you’ve worked as part of an events team.

If you’ve got experience, time, or simply a passion for helping others, there’s a spot for you too.

Whether you’ve volunteered for years, or are just looking for a new way to stay active and connected, Wave Makers gives you a chance to be right in the heart of our sport.

Whatever your path, you’ll be part of something real, rewarding and full of energy.

What can I do?

As a Wave Maker, you’ll play a key role in making sure our events feel smooth, welcoming, and world-class.

You might be:

  • Welcoming spectators, scanning tickets, answering questions

  • Assisting athletes on deck, distributing accreditations, keeping areas clear

  • Managing who can access particular event zones, pool deck and back-of-house

  • Preparing medals, supporting presenters, participating in ceremonies

  • Posting results, distributing water, resetting field of play spaces

  • Helping coordinate broadcast elements during major events

You can pick the role that suits you, and we’ll support you every step of the way.

What’s in it for me?

  • Develop real skills in event operations, customer service, sport delivery, broadcast and live event logistics

  • Be part of a positive, welcoming team who care about sport and community

  • Volunteer around your lifestyle - one shift, one event, or all year long

  • Feel the pride of helping athletes, families and fans have unforgettable experiences

What do I need to know?

You don’t need to have experience. You just have to be ready to join in.

Pre-requisites:

  • 16 years of age or older

  • A current Working with Children Check (free for volunteers - we can help you apply)

  • Completion of a short online induction module

  • A positive attitude and willingness to be part of a team

  • Reasonable physical fitness (roles may include standing, walking or moving through venues)

We’ll give you all the tools and support you need to feel confident before your first event.
