SwimmingSA is pleased to announce Marion Swimming Club as the Club of the Year for 2016/17.

This is the fourth time Marion has won the Club of the Year following success in 1981/82, 1984/85 and 2004/05.

During the 2016/17 Season several Marion Swimming Club members have been recognised for their individual international athletic and coaching achievements. Individuals such as Kyle Chalmers, Peter Bishop, Josh Palmer, Jesse Aungles, Bethan Mounfield & Shelly Jarrett have become household names and worn their club colours with pride.  Now SwimmingSA is recognising Marion Swimming Club for their Club excellence and efforts throughout the past 12 months.

Awarded annually the Club of the Year Award is judged by the Chairman of the SwimmingSA and recognises the most successful club in the areas of membership, corporate governance, officiating, athletic performance, coaching and community.

The Marion Swimming Club has undertaken activities to ensure that swimming is a sport enjoyed by a broad spectrum of the community and have created partnerships with the swim school and councils in their area to promote the sport.

In receiving the award Anne Gilmore, President Marion SC commented “Being awarded Swimming SA Club of the Year is a testament to the success, dedication and hard work of our Club as a whole and we a very honoured to receive this award. We are a team of swimmers, coaches and families who work together to be the best we can be both in the pool and in the community.  We are extremely proud of the success of our swimmers in the pool with our highlight being Kyle Chalmers winning gold at Rio. However, we are equally proud of our swimmers out of the pool with their support of initiatives such as our Multiclass Come and Try day and the City of Marion’s Welcome to Australia event.  As a Club our successes are not taken for granted and we are always striving to achieve the highest standards of swimming, friendship, commitment, dedication and above all team work.”

Zoe Williams, Club Captain Marion SC also noted that “As club captain of the Marion Swimming Club, I am immensely proud to hear that we have been awarded the SwimmingSA Club of the Year for 2016/17. The Marion Swimming Club has excelled in many areas, all the way from the international, senior level of competition to the development of our junior swimmers. However, the club is much more than its results, which speak for themselves. This club has a fantastic atmosphere of teamwork, friendship and inclusion, and I am thrilled that our achievements both in and out of the pool are being recognised.”
